Polar Bear Gatherings for the Common Good

Polar Bear Gathering for Common Good

The Office of Alumni Relations is excited to introduce this spin-off of our Polar Bear Gatherings. This program is designed to expand the reach of our Polar Bear community while reflecting our shared commitment to the common good. We encourage alumni hosts to select a nonprofit organization with which they have a personal connection, whether through prior volunteer experience or a cause they are passionate about.

These events are meant to be an investment of time rather than a financial commitment, allowing more alumni to participate. We’ve listed some questions below to think about as you start to think about what host organization or project would be a good fit.

Interested in hosting a volunteer project? Please share your ideas by emailing k.hand@bowdoin.edu. Include the following details to help staff review and coordinate your proposed project:

  1. Non‑profit would you like to work with (include link if available), and your connection to the organization.
  2. Expected number of participants and any capacity limits.
  3. Date and time of the activity.
  4. Whether the project is family‑friendly and any age limits.
  5. Tasks volunteers will assist with, including any accessible roles.
  6. Information required by the host organization (waivers, emergency contacts, etc.).
  7. Anything else the Alumni Relations staff should consider in supporting your gathering.
