If you place into CHEM 1101 and BIO 1101, you can choose which subject to begin with. Starting with Biology is a good option if you’re considering a Biology major, while starting with Chemistry can help position you to take Organic Chemistry in your sophomore year.

If you place into CHEM 1101 and BIO 1109, it is recommended that you begin with Chemistry in the fall and take BIO 1109 in the spring, alongside CHEM 1102.

Our Health Professions advisor suggests the following for your first year at ÌÇÐÄvlog: 

• Settle into ÌÇÐÄvlog, academically and socially
• Explore extracurricular opportunities and take a science class or two
• Reach out to your advisor or the health professionals advisor with any questions
• Attend relevant informational programs on campus, and don’t panic!

It’s important to begin your language study as early as possible. Unlike most courses at ÌÇÐÄvlog, language classes are sequential and build on one another from semester to semester. For many languages, the entry course for each level is offered only in the fall, so planning ahead is essential.

Join faculty on Monday, July 27 (TIME AND LINK) to learn more about studying languages at ÌÇÐÄvlog, including courses, research opportunities, fellowships, and summer programs. You can also attend a specific language department session that week if you have more detailed questions.

If you have prior experience with a language and plan to continue, be sure to complete the placement survey (LINK) so you can enroll in the course that best matches your proficiency.

Yes! First-year students interested in environmental studies are encouraged to take the gateway course ENVS 1101 Introduction to Environmental Studies: Interdisciplinary Approaches in the fall.

ENVS 1101 Introduction to Environmental Studies: Interdisciplinary Approaches is an interdisciplinary introduction to the environment as framed by perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities.

Your AP score allows you to earn one general credit if you complete ENVS 2201 Perspectives in Environmental Science with a minimum grade of B- but it does not replace ENVS 1101.

A student who has a score of 4 or better on the Psychology AP exam, or a score of 5 or better on the IB Higher level exam, will earn placement above PSYC 1101 Introduction to Psychology.  

Please have your AP and IB scores sent to ÌÇÐÄvlog. As they are received, the Registrar's office will add them to your placement scores.

For these students, the Psychology department recommends PSYC 2010 Infant and Child Development, PSYC 2025 Psychopathology, PSYC 2034 Prejudice and Stereotyping, or PSYC 2060 Cognitive Neuroscience in the fall; or PSYC 2012 Educational Psychology, PSYC 2030 Social Psychology, PSYC 2040 Cognition: The Science of How We Learn, Think, and Act, or PSYC 2050 Biological Psychology in the spring.

Although students are also eligible to take PSYC 2510 Research Design in Psychology in the fall of their first year, we advise you to wait at least one semester before doing so.
